Reclaim files from Windows 98's recycle bin

I'm just too tidy! As soon as I put something in the Recycle Bin, I have to empty it. The trouble is, I need some of the documents back. Is it possible to retrieve documents in Windows 98?

It's not difficult, and not guaranteed. The Recycle Bin is a bit like your office wastebin; to recover a document, you simply take it out. Getting a document back after the bin has been emptied is like trying to retrieve a file from a rubbish skip: it may still be there but it could be damaged, and there's every chance that it's gone for forever.

There's also a further complication as the software which can recover files after the Recycle Bin has been emptied doesn't come with Windows 98. You need to buy a utility package that includes an unerase tool: one like Norton Utilities, McAfee Utilities, or OnTrack's SystemSuite. In the long run, it is easier - and cheaper - to stop emptying the Recycle Bin.
